Software and Hardware Data Auditing
IT Asset Discovery
No other solution can match the breadth and
deprth of automatic asset identification and tracking offered by
Discovery 2007. Thanks to its 100% network visibility, Discovery 2007
makes sure that you have the latest information on the configuration,
usage and physical location of all your hardware and software.
In addition to PCs, Discovery 2007’s
patent-pending LANProbe technology
tracks every IP device on the network including printers, routers,
servers and firewalls. And it’s not just the local network that’s
covered; Centennial Discovery will find all devices connected to the
corporate-wide network, whether by LAN, WAN or even internet dial-up
accounts.
By continually monitoring the network,
Centennial Discovery can alert administrators to changes such as memory
being removed from a PC, or a device being moved from one location to
another. Centennial will also automatically recognize a new device being
added to the network and can even identify if a particular PC hasn’t
returned an audit for a period of time.

Centennial Discovery enables managers to
automatically locate and account for all software throughout the
organization – dramatically reducing the management time required to
assess and prove license compliance.
By tracking software usage, Centennial
Discovery can help managers decide when to remove redundant software,
when to re-deploy applications and even whether or not to renew
maintenance contracts.
Centennial Discovery can also alert
administrators to the presence of unauthorized software on individual
machines, helping secure the integrity of the network and reduce the
legal exposure of the organization.
Centennial Discovery helps administrators
identify where specific instances of an application require a security
upgrade to combat a specific vulnerability – cutting down the time taken
to react to threats.

Auditing PCs and other hardware devices for
type and configuration is critical to successful IT management,
but so too is knowing where assets are located in the
organization.
Centennial
Discovery is the only IT inventory solution which allows
managers to track the physical location of assets across the
organization without the need for costly and time-consuming
walk round audits.
Once automatically discovered and then
mapped to a physical location, each device is monitored by
Centennial Discovery, which can automatically alert
administrators if a machine is repositioned or even removed from
the network. An audit trail keeps track of current and previous
locations, together with the length of time a device resided in
each place.
For managers that want to return PCs at
the end of their lease, locate the laser printer acquired
without a purchase order, or simply know where to send engineers
to perform a memory upgrade, Centennial Discovery provides the
fastest way to locate all hardware across the organization.

In an ideal world,
organisations would be able to turn to a single supplier for all their
networking needs. In reality, not all PCs run the same operating systems
– yet you need to be able to track all IT assets, not just your Windows
PCs.

Discovery 2007 supports a wide range of
operating systems and network types, so you can be sure that whatever
your IT assets run on, you can dynamically track them anywhere in the
enterprise.
DSI process: four stages
Discovery 2007 is the perfect solution for
finding and tracking IT assets across the entire enterprise, regardless
of location. Client agents can report back to the Control Centre via a
variety of methods, meaning that even home workers and remote offices
without a permanent connection to the corporate network can be tracked
centrally.
Below is a sample of the client operating
systems supported in Discovery 2007. For a complete list, please refer
