Hardware inventory management

 

In addition to PCs, Discovery 2007’s patent-pending LANProbe technology tracks every IP device on the network including printers, routers, servers and firewalls. And it’s not just the local network that’s covered; Centennial Discovery will find all devices connected to the corporate-wide network, whether by LAN, WAN or even internet dial-up accounts.

 

By continually monitoring the network, Centennial Discovery can alert administrators to changes such as memory being removed from a PC, or a device being moved from one location to another. Centennial will also automatically recognize a new device being added to the network and can even identify if a particular PC hasn’t returned an audit for a period of time.

Physical Location Tracking

 

Auditing PCs and other hardware devices for type and configuration is critical to successful IT management, but so too is knowing where assets are located in the organization.

 

Centennial Discovery is the only IT inventory solution which allows managers to track the physical location of assets across the organization without the need for costly and time-consuming walk round audits.

DSI process: four stages

Discovery 2007 is the perfect solution for finding and tracking IT assets across the entire enterprise, regardless of location. Client agents can report back to the Control Centre via a variety of methods, meaning that even home workers and remote offices without a permanent connection to the corporate network can be tracked centrally.

Centennial Discovery Server also requires Microsoft MDAC 2.8 (shipped with full version of Centennial Discovery)

 

*If you are upgrading from a previous version of Discovery to Centennial Discovery you will require additional disk space. Please check your database size before upgrading. MSDE SQL 2000 Server has a 2GB database size limit and the upgrade process needs 3 times of the original database size. See 'Minimum System Requirements' in the 'Upgrading to Discovery' document.

 

In addition, if a pre-4.52 installation is currently installed on a Domain Controller, the installation will have to be moved as the user required for secure communication cannot be created on a Domain Controller. This is because a Domain Controller does not permit local users to be created. A document on moving a Discovery server is available from the Centennial Support Knowledge Base. Supported Databases

Discovery 2007 may be used in conjunction with either Microsoft SQL 2000 (Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and 64-bit for Itanium Edition) or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 ( Express, Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition).

In the event of using SQL 2000, Centennial advise that the appropriate MS SQL 2000 is on a Per Processor basis. A Processor license includes access for an unlimited number of devices or users to connect from either inside the corporate LAN or WAN or outside the firewall. Centennial Discovery  Web Edition

Centennial Software offers several pricing models. These models are designed to offer organisations the option of purchasing the Centennial Discovery Software in the manner that best suits the organisations buying criteria or project requirement.

 

Purchasing Models Available:

  • Outright Purchase - with 12, 24, and 36 months support contract option.

  • Project Licences - 30 or 90 days includes support for duration purchased (Project Licences can be upgraded to a full licence and will be reduced by 50% of the cost of the projects licences paid and the outright purchase cost of either the Std or Web Editions).

  • Annual Subscription - licences are provided at a reduced cost than the outright purchase option and include support for the subscription period. (Annual Subscription licences can be upgraded to a full licence by paying 60% of the outright purchase cost)

  • Public Sector Pricing is available for both outright purchase and annual subscription licences.
